Hi there,
This issue's bill: internet
Promotional prices usually end after 12 months, and the bill quietly goes up. Before you call:
- Find what your provider charges new customers for your speed, and what one competitor offers at your address.
- Check your bill for a modem or router rental fee.
- Run a speed test in the evening. If you never get close to what you pay for, a lower tier may do.
Then call and say: "I've been a customer for three years and my bill just went up to $X. New customers are getting $Y, and [competitor] offers $Z at my address. What can you do to bring my bill down?" Then stop talking and wait.

Quick win
Open your phone's app store subscriptions list. It takes 30 seconds, and most people find at least one charge they forgot.
Reader question
"Is autopay a good idea?" For fixed bills you trust, it avoids late fees and some providers give a discount. For variable bills, look before you pay; price increases slip through autopay easily. More in Make a bill calendar.
Keep cutting,
